2008 Trail Work Season To Begin In December
Tamarancho trail workwill start the second week of December, after rain has softened up the soil somewhat so it is more workable and the fall riding season is near an end. This year it will be Saturday December 13 as the first day of trail work.
We will also work on Sat. Dec. 20, skip the holiday season and start up again on Sat. January 3, and work the following three Saturdays, 1/10; 1/17; & 1/24. We will know by then if we need more work days.
We start at 10:00 AM and work until about 1:00 PM. We meet at the ranger office, at the top end of Iron Springs Road, heavy rain cancels. We provide all tools and also have drinks and Clif Bars available.
Marin Bike Patrol hits the trails in Marin!
BTC Marin and A4B sponsor bike patrol at China Camp and Mt. Tam State Parks
The Marin Bike Patrol is a volunteer organization dedicated to keeping Marin fire roads and trails safe and accessible. The Marin Bike Patrol partners with local land managers to assist trail users and promote responsible mountain biking. Patrolling in pairs and equipped with radios, Marin Bike Patrol members provide a vital link between recreational trail users and park staff.
The Marin Bike Patrol started patrolling at China Camp State Park in July and is in discussions with land managers about expanding the service to other parks in Marin. Patrollers are receiving training from the Volunteer In Parks Program and from the International Mountain Bicycling Association’s (IMBA) National Mountain Bike Patrol, which is modeled after the successful National Ski Patrol.
Bike patroller responsibilities include:
- Reporting and responding to injuries and accidents
- Troubleshooting trail hazards, obstacles and dangers
- Assisting riders with faulty equipment
- Educating trail users about safe and low-impact trail-usage
- Building relationships among the various trail users
Upcoming Marin Bike Patrol dates and locations:
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays & Sundays, Sept. 6 – October 12 China Camp State Park

The 2007 Tamarancho trailwork season has come to a close, but lots of great progress has been made this year. Storm damage from last year was still being addressed this season, but some other long term projects have been completed Included are the addition park spec. signs at all intersections. These signs were hand built and installed by members of the Forest Knolls Freewheelers, (Thanks Randy and Steve-O !), and we owe them many thanks for bringing the signs up to snuff. Please report any damage or unsafe conditions at Tamarancho to us here: btcjim@comcast.net
